Gisborne is one of the most significant parts of New Zealand for both Maori and European history. It was the first landing site for Captain James Cook, the first European to land here. It was also the birthplace of many chiefs who went on to form tribes throughout New Zealand. As we mature as a nation, people are rediscovering our complex history with its many tales of love war, injustice and murder.
