It doesn’t take long to get into open ocean off the East Coast, but there is still plenty of sailing and windsurfing in the bay, and Gisborne is a stop-off for cruising yachts heading to the South Island from the Pacific. There is usually a boat in need of a crew member in need of a new experience.
