Three Rivers Medical now has a Women’s Health Clinic Te Ara Puāwai led by women’s health nurse practitioner Michelle Green.
“With the shortage of GPs, we are focussing on employing more specialised clinicians and Nurse Practitioners like Michelle Green who has significant experience in the women’s health field,” Te Kira says.
"This will take the pressure off our GPs and allow us to provide comprehensive, specialised health care to our community."
“We are very happy to be opening Te Ara Puāwai, a women’s health clinic which aims to remove barriers and improve healthcare access and outcomes for diverse populations including LGBTQIA+,” says Three Rivers Medical general manager Michelle Te Kira.
Michelle Green brings more than 20 years of nursing experience in the USA where she has worked in hospital and outpatient clinical settings.
She has extensive clinical expertise across primary care, sexual and reproductive health, gender affirming healthcare, emergency medicine, radiology, intensive care and public health.
Green is skilled in comprehensive patient assessment, chronic disease management, patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration and development of evidence based clinical policies and procedures.
“I want to provide a safe space for people to come who might be dealing with gender dysphoria or suffering stress or trauma due to their experiences in the medical system,” she says.
“I’m passionate about women’s health. In the States I saw over time that women tended to take care of everybody else but held off on taking care of themselves. A lot of women experienced some kind of stress or trauma related to their healthcare and it made it difficult for them to come into the clinic.”
The Women’s Health Clinic at Three Rivers aims to alleviate that stress by providing a safe and comfortable environment for people to come, including gender diverse patients.
Green was a partner in a health and wellness clinic in Fayetteville, Arkansas where there was a focus on LGBTQIA+ healthcare. They provided gender affirming hormone therapy for transgender and gender diverse individuals. They delivered comprehensive women’s health and gynaecological care including preventative health screening, contraceptive management, menstrual management and acute and chronic gynaecological care.
This kind of specialised care is now being offered at the new Women’s Health Clinic at Three Rivers Medical.
Te Ara Puāwai provides comprehensive women's health services alongside gender-affirming care for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, including those assigned female or male at birth.
People can book by calling Three Rivers and asking to see Michelle Green for a private consultation upstairs at the practice.
Offering the Women’s Health Clinic is one of the ways Three Rivers Medical is catering to the diverse needs of the community.
