Annette Kingi - Receptionist
Although she has been on reception for the past 18 years, Annette spends four days a week keeping things working behind the scenes, and one on the front line.
“The rest of the time I do admin, send-off records, and make up charts as patients come and go. I set up new patients in our system and organise their notes to go into the computer.
“We normally have a few more coming than going. People are a bit nomadic; most of our patients who leave are leaving town.
We always get asked if we are taking new patients, and the answer is always “Yes!”
“For a long time other practices weren’t taking new patients so we were it.”
Three Rivers Medical is going to take Kaiti Medical Centre’s efficiency and care to a new level, says Annette.
“I can’t wait. I think it’s going to be marvellous. It will make a big difference to our patients, especially with services like a dentist in the same building. People are always looking for a dentist.”
Annette’s time on reception has been an inspiration to take better care of her own health.
“It has made me more aware of when to go to the doctor, and I’m better at dealing with a lot of the minor cuts and things at home.
“I gave up smoking and I spend a lot of time at the gym. When I stopped smoking three years ago I put on about 10kg and it has been hard to shift.
“Everything tasted so good because my smell and tastebuds started working again.”
She and her husband Tom have five children and 10 grandchildren, and Annette has still found time to umpire netball twice a week for the past 14 years.
