Heather Besseling - Clinical Nurse Leader
Heather Besseling is Clinical Nurse Leader at Three Rivers Medical. She joined the practice in 2014 coming from Gisborne Hospital where she was Outpatients Clinical Nurse Manager for nearly 18 years.
Heather loves working in primary health becauseof the opportunities it presents to teach families about staying well. “It’s different to what we were doing in secondary care. I like the idea of educating the patients and their families.”
Keen to try her hand at something different Heather was thrilled to get her present job and feels particular lucky to be surrounded by a group of very experienced primary care nurses. “We are a motivated team who care about the patients.”
Heather brings a wide background of skills to her job. After completing her nursing training at Gisborne Hospital she spent a few years working in London hospitals then returned to South Africa where she completed her midwifery training. She spent some time working in theatre before returning to Gisborne Hospital. She has completed a few post graduate papers including a certificate in specialty nursing, orthopedics. She has a particular interest in fracture management and wound care.
When she’s not at work Heather is mum to two grown up sons and loves walking with her dogs. She once walked the Rotorua Marathon. And here’s something you might not have known about Heather – she used to be a national trampoline judge!
